The Modernism Route has another reading room. We can now read reprints of pre-war newspapers and books about Gdynia modernism sipping pot-boiled coffee by the fireplace in a place which still remembers the pre-modernism times, when Gdynia was only a small fishing village.
"Cafe Strych" is located in an over 100-year-old a fisherman's cabin at 7B Plac Kaszubski (entrance from the Żeromskiego Street), near such objects which can be found along the Rout no. IV "Unknown Modernism" as The Szudziłowski Family Tenement House (designed by the guru of Gdynia modernism – Włodzimierz Prochaska), or the office building designed by Wacław Tomaszewski which houses police station now.
Interior of the cafe was arranged to make the 100-year-old house's spirit still feel at home. You've got everything here! Old furniture, household appliances, radios, toys, lamps, clocks, firearms and cold weapons, musical instruments. Well, and, hanging on the walls, excellent photographs presenting Gdynia and its residents from the past, and no, they are not photocopies, they are enlargements developed from genuine, old plates!
Coffee, mulled wine, cakes and alcoholic beverages taste exceptionally well in such place, especially during poetry evenings, or when accompanied by live piano music.
